Dragonfly AEC Consulting was founded by Alexandra Jayjock, CPSM, driven by a belief that the role of the AEC business development professional is changing. Alex’s career in the design and construction industry has exposed her to a broad range of markets, services and  geographies. After transitioning from a focus in residential construction, Alex joined RTKL in 2008 to lead business development efforts for the Washington, DC healthcare studio.

At RTKL, at the time a 13-office, 1,200+ person architectural and engineering firm, Alex focused on building new client and industry relationships in the mid-Atlantic healthcare market, successfully pursuing projects that ranged from single-room renovations to full campus replacement projects. In 2014, Alex was recruited by the Boston architectural practice Payette as Business Development Manager. While her initial role was to help expand their healthcare market, Alex’s position grew to cover firmwide business development responsibilities that included a national focus on academic science, research and healthcare pursuits for the 150-person practice. Though these two firms differed greatly in size, market focus and specializations, the common challenge in both of these roles was the creation of a business development culture and process within firms that had not previously had dedicated BD staff. These skills and experiences prove invaluable at Dragonfly, as many of our clients work with us to define what business development can and should look like within their organizations.

In 2011, Alex achieved her Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) accreditation, a designation recognized by the AEC industry as a mark of distinction for business developers who have made a commitment to professional excellence, career advancement and an ongoing pursuit of knowledge.

NICOLE SMITH

Creative Strategist

An award winning graphics specialist, Nicole has been professionally designing creative and compelling marketing materials for 20 years. She believes that design must tell a story and spark an emotion in order to engage and interest the audience. It is simply another path to developing relationships. Good design not only looks good, but never loses sight of a clearly defined message.

Nicole began working in the A/E/C industry when she was hired by Pennoni in 2004 to bring their graphic design in-house and incorporate creativity into proposals and collateral materials, as well as develop standards for other avenues of communication. During her time there, and as the firm grew from fewer than 500 employees to more than 1,200, she worked on 2 rebrands, a brand refresh, and the vision for 3 websites. Other primary projects she has worked on include targeted pursuits, trade show exhibit booth designs, firm anniversary campaigns, and event planning. A pinnacle of her achievements, the firm’s quarterly magazine was honored with 4 Marketing Communications Awards from SMPS Philadelphia and SMPS National in 2018. She was also the first ever recipient of the Diamond Awards Best Panel honor from ACEC/PA for a Pennoni project submission in 2012.

With a diverse portfolio, she is knowledgeable in a variety of software that aid in being innovative and producing unique and cutting-edge materials that get audience attention for actual ROI.
